Kariuki is a Professional Mechanical Engineer and a Member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (MIEK). He is a Senior lecturer in the Department of mechanical engineering at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Additionally, he is the Director of Intellectual Property Management and University-industry liaison (DIPUIL) a position he has held for the last ten (10) years. As the Director, DIPUIL he has been instrumental in the institutionalization of Intellectual Property (IP)management at the university through creation of a technology transfer office (TTO) and development of an elaborate and comprehensive Intellectual Property Policy. Kariuki has benefitted greatly from training by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) where he has done several advanced IP courses on the various aspects of IP management and technology transfer. He recently qualified as a certified WIPO Technology and Innovation Support staff.
