Dr Nancy Njeru
Research Scientist, Regional Mycotoxin Research Lab Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO)

Dr Nancy Njeru is a Research Scientist (Mycotoxins) at Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO). She is a holder of PhD Crop Protection, MSc Microbiology and BSc Microbiology & Biotechnology, all from the University of Nairobi. She has approximately 10 years experience of working on various aspects of mycotoxins, including detection, integrated management and evaluation of the efficacy of various interventions.

Currently, she heads the Regional Laboratory for Mycotoxin Research and Capacity Building at KALRO, Machakos. The laboratory’s mandate is management of mycotoxins for enhanced food safety. Major activities of the laboratory include research, surveillance and monitoring, testing, microbiology, capacity building and support to policy on aflatoxins control management. She is also the lead technical personnel at KALRO’s Aflasafe Production Plant. Aflasafe is a biological product used to protect maize, groundnuts and sorghum against aflatoxins when applied 2-3 weeks to flowering.
