Prof. Maina Wagacha is an accomplished Plant Pathologist and Associate Professor at the University of Nairobi, specializing in mycotoxin research, plant health management, and standards regulatory compliance. A holder of a PhD in Plant Pathology from the University of Bonn (Germany) and post-doctoral training from University of Hohenheim (Germany) and George Mason University (USA), he has mentored over 40 post-graduate students and co- authored 89 peer-reviewed articles.

Prof. Wagacha’s expertise spans international research collaborations with IITA and ICRISAT, and he has played pivotal roles in developing aflatoxin management standards with the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS). His impactful research and capacity-building efforts have advanced food safety and market access for Kenyan agriculture, making him a leading authority in strengthening laboratory networks and promoting safe, sustainable agricultural growth.
